The Wilderness Trail Distillery’s fifth Charity Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, September 24 is a great way to usher in the fall season and enjoy delicious chili for a good cause. If you’re bringing the family, consider it a way for kids to help other kids while enjoying family activities.

The event, with a tasting beginning at 11:30 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m., benefits the Danville Kiwanis Club whose mission is to find creative ways to meet the needs of children in the community. Kiwanis also serve the elderly of Boyle County. The chili cook-off features music from DJ Reece, refreshing drinks, treats and activities for kids. Family activities include horse and wagon rides, face painting and book giveaways, and information about upcoming Boyle County Public Library Bookmobile events. As an alternative to chili, the Danville High School girls’ basketball team will provide a hot dog meal for the children.

For chili lovers, a $10 tasting ticket includes a visit to the booths of 25 chefs, all vying for the title of People’s Choice. Each ticket holder will select their favorite. Our panel of judges – sports analyst Larry Vaught; Steve Hoffman, director of the Norton Center for the Arts; Max Duffy, Kentucky Sports Radio personality and former British footballer; Kendall Clinton, director of the Danville-Boyle County Convention and Visitors Bureau; and longtime radio personality Charlie Perry are challenged to name the top three winners.

The money raised helps Kiwanis with projects throughout the year, such as back-to-school supplies and gifts of new clothes, coats, shoes and small toys for children during the holidays. They also treat several local seniors with lunch and small gifts during the holidays. People supported by Kiwanis during this time are not served by any other group. Many Wilderness Trail Distillery business partners and Kiwanis supporters sponsor this event to spread much-needed joy during the holiday season and throughout the year. Tasting tickets are available at the door. Winners will be announced at 2:30 p.m.
