Safeway Drops Air Miles Program – Smithers Interior News

Safeway abandons the Air Miles program

Grocery chain parent company opts for Scene+ loyalty program

Soon, you will no longer be able to earn Air Miles at Safeway.

The grocery chain is ditching the Air Miles program in favor of something else.

Sobey’s parent company, which also owns Safeway, is launching a new loyalty program, joining Bank of Nova Scotia and Cineplex as co-owners of the Scene+ program.

The Scene+ program will launch in Atlantic Canada in August and end in the rest of the country in early 2023, the company said.

Scene+ customers can earn points when they purchase movie tickets from Cineplex, meals at restaurants from Recipe Unlimited Corp. such as Swiss Chalet and Harvey’s, and when banking through the Bank of Nova Scotia.

Points can be redeemed for purchases made from these and other businesses.

Smithers Airport Manager Rob Blackburn said only time will tell if the change to the frequent flyer program will affect airport operations.

“We have seen many changes in point systems over the years,” he said. “At this stage, it is too early to say whether the change will affect us or not. Often changes take a year or two before we notice a change in travel plans. »
