ISLAMABAD: Following a terrorist attack by Baloch militants against Chinese teachers at the University of Karachi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered authorities to further tighten security for Chinese professionals working on China Economic Corridor projects -Pakistan, Bol News informed on Tuesday.
The decision was taken during a meeting to review security plans for Chinese nationals based in Pakistan. Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal were also part of the meeting.
The Prime Minister reiterated that no compromise will be tolerated on the safety of Chinese nationals. “The interior minister and security institutions should provide rock-solid security,” he said.
In an intelligence-based operation, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Balochistan on Monday arrested a suspected female suicide bomber in the Hoshab region of Balochistan, planning to target Chinese workers in Pakistan.
According to the CTD, the suspected female suicide bomber belonged to the outlawed Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) Majeed Brigade wing. It was the BLA whose female suicide bomber had carried out an attack on the Confucius Institute at the University of Karachi, killing three Chinese nationals. Security officials also recovered explosives and detonators from the suspected suicide bomber.
The arrest came hours after Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, in his telephone conversation with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm resolve to carry out a thorough investigation, apprehend the perpetrators of the attack on Chinese nationals in Karachi and bring them to justice. .
