We’ve seen prototypes of the updated Porsche Panamera circulating for the better part of a year now, but this still-camouflaged engineering sample contains what appears to be a production-ready interior, complete with production-ready visuals. of the updated Panamera. outside. Sure, this prototype’s disguise is fairly minimal at this point (and really has been since last May), but this interior shot bolsters support for what we already suspected – that it is indeed a a follow-up update to the existing car rather than an all-new Panamera.
The low-res display image doesn’t give us much that we can’t see from the outside of the prototype, okay, but we can see the larger, square front end prominently against the silver (a silver German car; as it is original ) finish. There is also a small spoiler visible on the rear deck which is not deployed on this prototype, but if you close your eyes and use your imagination…
Meanwhile, the exterior has evolved since we last saw a prototype on the road. The new vertical fog lights now have a real shape (you can see the tape has been redone to look like a lamp has partially fallen out of the passenger side grille insert) and the grille now has fixed slats. The rear bumper of this prototype is also new, but obviously not final. Pronounced dimples are quite something; we suspect they won’t stick around for production.
While extending the life of a model is certainly nothing new, we are entering a phase where it is likely to become even more commonplace. As automakers shift their long-term development goals away from ICE to focus on electrification, models that rely heavily on fossil-fuel powertrains will continue to see their lifecycles further extended to fill the gap. There’s a gap between legacy powertrains and battery power, which means the Stellantis view of platform longevity could become more mainstream before the majority of the industry switches to BEVs.
