Ministries of Interior and Labor call for cooperation in the fight against human trafficking

The Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training issued a joint press release calling on all relevant ministries and institutions to cooperate in the fight against human trafficking and to effectively implement the work of labor inspection abroad.

In a press release dated October 21, the two ministries said they had put in place inter-ministerial prakas on the creation of an inter-ministerial committee to work on the labor inspection of foreigners.

He said that in addition to these prakas, the authorities of the two ministries have carried out operations against all forms of human trafficking and illegal gambling based on the measures of the Labor Law, the immigration and relevant legal provisions.

β€œTo enable this interministerial committee to carry out this action, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Labor appeal to all the ministries and institutions concerned, to the national and subnational administrations, authorities, factories and companies, and to all companies hiring foreigners to support and participate with the committee to ensure law enforcement to achieve a good result,” the statement said.

Cambodia has been actively fighting against human trafficking and illegal gambling lately, with both activities largely concentrated in Preah Sihanouk province.

Interior Minister Sar Kheng led a meeting on Oct. 21 to discuss the issue of foreign labor. He said that in the first 10 months of 2022, police inspected the homes of 30,834 foreign workers and fined 2,416 foreigners for not having work permits.

Earlier this month, five business sites in Preah Sihanouk province were permanently shut down over alleged links to human trafficking, while four others were ordered to temporarily suspend operations while investigations continue. .
