HAT: Can you tell me about the room in the photo?

Check : This master bedroom overlooks the family’s back yard which backs onto a greenbelt. Given the view, we were inspired by nature to create the color scheme for this space. Green linen curtains help guide the eye seamlessly from the windows to the greenery outside.

HAT: What are the hottest colors and styles seen recently in bedrooms?

Check : Saturated earth tones are definitely having a moment right now. We love deep browns, olive greens, navy and dusty pinks.

HAT: Who is your favorite supplier for buying bedroom furniture and accessories?

Check : For furniture, we like Burke Decor, Serena & Lily, & Lulu & Georgia. For custom furniture in fun colors (like the lounge chair in this room), we frequent Shoppe Amber Interiors in Los Angeles. For bedding and pillows, we like Vintage Rug Shop and Collectiv Co. Our go-to artist for large or small pieces is Aileen Fitzgerald who is based in Austin, TX. When it comes to accent pieces, we frequent local antique malls and flea markets to select items that speak to us.

HAT: Have you recently received any fun or quirky requests from guests to incorporate into their room?

Check : Whatever the room, we always try to infuse the spaces with colors that will help break up the neutral tones throughout the home. Most of our clients have light hardwood floors and white walls, so we try to incorporate colorful furniture and accents that can help bring their spaces to life. We are based in Texas and several clients have asked us to incorporate taxidermy into their master bedroom design. In fact, it ended up being so much fun. We love a good challenge here!

HAT: What do guests recently need for their room: more storage space?

Check: More multifunctional functions/dual use spaces – cafes etc., things like that. We are getting more and more requests for comfortable seating areas in bedrooms. Given how many of us are working from home, it only makes sense that there is an increased need for comfortable living rooms around the house!

HAT: What makes a retailer stand out as a designer and keep you loyal to their store?

Check : We gravitate towards retailers that have quality products that will last for many, many years. I love the idea of keeping meaningful pieces and passing them down between generations. On that note, we also like retailers who have a selection that feels both current AND timeless. We try to avoid anything too trendy.

HAT: What is your personal bedroom style? Something unique that you have in your home readers might like to read?

Check : My personal bedroom style is a warm, layered and inviting space. Mixing new and vintage is a MUST for me, and I have several pieces in my own home that were passed down to me from my grandmother. Besides wearing her wedding ring as mine now, I also have several of her vintage canisters in our kitchen. She was a home economics teacher who loved to cook, and I’m sure she would love to be included in our kitchen!
