Imran Khan reportedly arrested after protection bond expires, Pakistan’s Home Ministry says


The deposed Pakistani prime minister will be arrested by security guards deployed outside his residence in Bani Gala after his protection bond, which was granted on June 2, expires, the country’s Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has said. . According to The News International, Sanaullah said the former Pakistani prime minister had been charged in more than two dozen cases, including riots, sedition, mayhem and armed attacks on the federation. Pakistan’s interior minister also noted that the security official deployed outside Khan’s residence would eventually arrest him when the PTI chief’s protective bond expires.

“How can one become a leader of a political party in a democratic society that incites the people and ignores moral and democratic values, calling his opponents traitors? Sanaullah questioned, according to the report.

Pakistan’s interior minister said he welcomed Khan to Islamabad and noted that security was provided to the ex-prime minister in accordance with law. Sanaullah’s remarks came late on Saturday night as Islamabad police said that in view of Imran Khan’s possible return to Islamabad from Peshawar, security around Bani Gala had been tightened.

“In view of the expected arrival of PTI Chairman Imran Khan in Bani Gala, security around Bani Gala has been tightened and placed on high alert,” police said.
