A series of audio leaks featuring conversations from former prime ministers and former prime ministers have surfaced on social media. The minister made the remarks at a press conference here after chairing the first meeting of a high-level committee formed to probe audio leaks and review cybersecurity protocols at the prime minister’s office.

“I say categorically that no hostile or internal agencies are involved in this security breach,” he said.

He also said an investigation into the security breach at the Prime Minister’s Office had been completed. The investigation indicated that some “individuals” may be involved in the hacking and leaking of private conversations at the PMO, he added. The minister said it has not yet been decided whether the investigation report will be made public or not. He further said that a comprehensive report is being presented to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the recommendations of the report will be implemented after the Prime Minister issues instructions.

The minister said it was decided that cybersecurity protocols should be defined at a high level and the necessary equipment to ensure security should be procured. He noted that people were often involved in such activities for money because technology had advanced so much that hacking a phone call was no longer a difficult task. Referring to the latest leaked audio featuring PTI chief Imran Khan, Rana Sanaullah said his international conspiracy story has already been exposed before the nation. Now Khan’s involvement in the horse business is also in the spotlight, he added. “This ‘fitna’ is now on display,” he remarked. The Home Secretary has accused the former Prime Minister of playing games with the nation with a false narrative and misleading the youth of this country to then return to power.
